Kaela's Mission Trip to Africa

My name is Kaela Phillips. I have the amazing opportunity to travel on a mission trip to Africa in February 2016 to help orphanded children and families in need. We will be traveling to Kericho, Kenya, where through efforts from Dallas First United Methodist Church, the Gateway to Victory Learning Center was built. Gateway to Victory Learning Center is a non-profit preschool and feeding center that serves orphans and other children in need of the resources and support to thrive and grow spiritually, emotionally, and academically. These students receive an education and are fed two meals and a snack each day. About 75% of the children are orphans and have been placed with family members, usually an aunt, grandmother or an older sibling. The rest of the children are what are categorized in Kenya as "vulnerable children". They do have a living parent but usually one that is unable to care for them. Some of these parents cannot provide the adequate housing for these children. This is where we come in.

On this trip, we would be helping upgrade some of their homes to make their living situations more comfortable and sanitary. These children live in a rainy party of the country, so when they sleep on the floor, it gets muddy, which can cause respiratory diseases and other health issues. Our plan is to bring a little more comfort to these families and to help prevent disease. 

This is where I need your help. I really feel like God is calling me to help these families. I would like to raise the money to give these families the comfort they deserve. Money donated will cover my travel expenses and food. Any little bit helps and will go a long way.
