Katrina's Journey to Healing

This fund is made on behalf of Katrina Velasco, a 20-year old girl who up until 3 months ago was leading a normal, fun, happy life. This changed one afternoon when Katrina was out with her friends and a sudden, severe headache landed her in the emergency room. While there, she collapsed and had to be transported via helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General where they had very little hope that she would make it through the night.  By the grace of God, Katrina lived through the night. Upon surgery and further investigation,  Katrina was diagnosed with a brain tumor. For a month and half, Katrina remained unresponsive. However, to the surprise of doctors and nurses, this strong young lady started responding and re-learning basic bodily functions. Her progress was a lot like that of a newborn. Things we take for granted like holding our heads straight and swallowing, Katrina had to learn to do all over.  
By her side through this difficult time, has been her mother Carina. She has not left the hospital since her daughter collapsed. Both Katrina and her mother are remarkable examples of perseverance and passion for life and healing.
The coming months will be filled with surgery and therapy to continue the recovery process. As we know, hospital bills are expensive. In addition, the family must consider accomodations to meet Katrina's needs in her home.  We ask that you consider donating if you are able. The money will go toward assisting this remarkable pair in this journey. Every little bit counts! Prayers are also needed and welcomed.
