Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read our story. Baby Mia was born at the end of July with a large Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Coarctation (narrowing) of the aorta. Shortly after birth, Mia had a hard time keeping her oxygen levels up and was breathing hard which resulted in her having to go into the NICU. Very soon after getting stabilized, she was air EVAC to the local children's hospital to get specialized care. After tests and imagining were done, the time finally came when our little girl at just 2 weeks old, underwent open heart surgery. After 8 hours of anxiously waiting to see her again, the surgeons were able to repair the coarctation but only did a temporary fix on the VSD. Mia still needs time to grow in order to receive a permanent fix which has to happen in less than a year. In other words, Mia will have to have another open heart surgery so she can enjoy a normal healthy problem free beating heart. Less than a year will pass and our first born will experience two heart surgeries and more visits to specialist than you could imagine. 

After surgery, Mia is believed to have suffered minor seizures and will need to follow up with neurology for a while after her heart is healed. Mia is showing that she is a fighter because each day she progresses and shows signs of improvement. Doctors are optimistic that she will be off the ventilator soon but still needs a little support. Changes are added or adjusted according to her needs.

We have gotten a small glimpse at just the airEVAC bill alone for $34000 that the insurance says is an out of network expense. As new parents we are trying our best to be there and provide for Mia. Not a day goes by that we’re not by her side in hopes that our presence shall allow her to remain calm but more importantly for her to know she is incredibly loved. We don’t want to be a burden by asking for help.
