The Grateful Ride

Donation protected
My name is Leisure McCorkle and I am an anthropologist, a musician, and a bike adventurer. I am riding across the country to spread awareness for cycling advocacy.

During the course of my life I have seen bikes bring people together and transform the world we live in at the local level. Over the last two years I have seen that the "local message" of cycling can unite other places and people.

I do believe there is something about bike riding and touring that connects us with other people and empowers the desire to live and love as free humans, socially engaged in the world and with nature.

This October I plan to embark on an epic bicycling adventure to see the U.S. (on the ground), and meet other people and encourage them to "ride anywhere, and everywhere."

It makes good sense that while cycling around the country, that I might raise awareness for a cause greater than myself. Half of the money I raise will go to supporting the trip (campsites, food, gear, maps, and sundries) and the other half will be donated to charities I believe in that have a personal connection.  I plan to give to different amazing organizations along different phases of the cross country adventure I call - The Grateful Ride.

Along the trip, I plan to engage individuals and communities, and learn more about their biking cultures, and help support riding in these locations by bringing a small part of what our community in Charlotte has to offer and also learn.

On my return to Charlotte in 2016, I plan to host a cultural event and share my experiences with the Charlotte community.  I am hopeful that this will encourage more people to travel to Charlotte to ride here with us, but also will encourage more individuals and groups from Charlotte to travel to other communities to ride and connect.

Cycling is a passion for me, and I know for many others. I hope to become a better citizen, and more knowledgeable about how cycling can make our world a better place .

My motto is of course for this trip: "Where we are going, we don't need bicycle lanes." I hope my adventure will show this motto as "truth," and that anything is possible.
