Krystie's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Krystie Gomes is the youngest of four children to Kathy Feder and Kenny Gomes, She has been described as a "warrior", "strong and courageous", "wise beyond her years", and "heroic and brave". The list of this amazing girls attributes could go on and on but they do not even begin to scratch the surface of who she is and who she has become during her journey of battling cancer. This journey started on Friday, January 24th, 2020 when Krystie and her family received the news of her diagnosis of Osteoscarcoma bone cancer. That is the day that changed Krystie's life forever.
On January 28th, Krystie started her first round of a 12 week chemotherapy treatment, that would be followed by surgery to remove the tumor and replace her knee and then an additional 19 weeks of chemotherapy following her surgery. Her last round of chemo is today, Friday, October 2nd, 2020. This day is bitter sweet. It's a celebration of hopefully her last chemo treatment, but the reality is that Krystie's journey does not end here. Her road to recovery will continue with multiple doctors appointments to track her health, scans to make sure the cancer has not returned, hours of physical therapy appointments and knee lengthening surgery.
Kathy and Kenny are long time residents of Castro Valley and have served so many in the Castro Valley community. With four very involved and athletic children, they have touched and been touched by so many loving families within the Castro Valley, Hayward, Bishop O'Dowd, Transfiguration and St. Leander's Church communities. We always hear it takes a village, and we are asking that the village come together to help support them as they start this road to recovery. The community has rallied around Krystie and her family and has blessed their lives in so many ways. They are amazed at the love and thoughtfulness that has been poured out to them during this time.
As many of you know, Kathy is self-employed and owns Dance Co Studio in Hayward, which has been closed since the diagnosis so that Kathy could be the main care-giver for Krystie. She has been by her side for every treatment, every doctors visit and every hospital stay. Wherever Krystie is, Kathy is right there with her. Due to the pandemic, there was a period where both Kathy and Kenny were not able to work because they could not risk Krystie getting sick. This caused a real hardship on the family.
Unfortunately, insurance will not cover 100% of the cost of Krystie's road to recovery. We are asking for the communities help again. Any donation that you are able to make will greatly bless this family.
