My name is Krysten Kaladkarin, and in 2026 I will embark on a first-of-its-kind solo female hitchhiking journey across Africa, traveling overland from the continent's east to west while documenting the experience through storytelling, photography, and film.

As a Filipina woman and creator of color, I have experienced firsthand the barriers that make journeys like this far more difficult to pursue. Visa restrictions, financial obstacles, and limited opportunities often mean that adventures of this scale feel out of reach for many women from backgrounds like mine.

This journey aims to challenge that narrative.

By sharing every step of the expedition, I hope to inspire more women to pursue ambitious dreams, explore the world on their own terms, and realize that courage and curiosity are not defined by nationality, gender, or background.

Along the way, I will document acts of kindness, raw and authentic cultural experiences, and the everyday human connections that rarely make headlines. Through these stories, I hope to build a more inclusive travel community that encourages curiosity, understanding, and meaningful connection across borders.

This is a journey for women, by a woman.

Beyond the adventure itself, I hope to use my platform to create positive impact through storytelling, fundraising initiatives, and volunteer work along the way.

But in order to carry out that mission, I must first make the journey possible.

The funds raised will help cover essential expedition costs, including visas, vaccinations, insurance, safety equipment, transportation, internet connectivity, and documentary production expenses.
