Krystal's MS Journey
Donation protected
On December 28th, 2020, my baby sister, Krystal, had a seizure at the wheel and careened into a tree. She was rushed to VCU’s Intensive Care Unit and she remained hospitalized for five days. Her MRI revealed lesions on her brain and spine and she was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, otherwise known as MS.
MS is an unpredictable progressive disease which affects the brain and spinal cord leading to a number of symptoms, such as tremors, fatigue, numbness, pain, and blurred vision. While there is no cure for this disease, there are treatment options available to help manage these symptoms as they progress.
Krystal has moved in with our mother in Georgia and found a neurologist to care for her as she navigates this new normal. Unfortunately, medicating MS is extremely expensive and she is currently uninsured. We are asking for any help you can give to help her address her most acute needs this year: (1) her most expensive medicine (Ocrevus) and (2) prescribed therapy (physical and mental health).
Medical care of this magnitude is a brutal financial burden and we are hoping to reach out to family and friends with Krystal's story in order to alleviate the stress of this sudden diagnosis. The sooner we can organize a care plan, the faster we can work toward giving her a chance at living a healthy and fulfilling life.
No amount is too small and greatly appreciated! It takes a village, and your assistance is life changing for Krystal. Thank you for taking the time to learn about what my sister is going through. I will keep you posted to update you on how you’ve helped her.
