Hello Friends and Supporters

This is a fundraiser we have put together for Sapphire. We have agreed to take her and try to rehabilitate her, so she can lead as much as a normal life as possible.

We saw her post on Facebook appealing for a foster or forever home. Her video and story broke our hearts. Although her colouring is different, her eyes and facial expression reminded us of Irma. Those that follow our work will remember Irma.

This was the video we first saw of her. Warning this is upsetting hence added as a link

This is Sapphire’s story….

Her life has been heartbreakingly terrible so far. Sapphire first appeared on the streets of Navpaktos—terrified and missing half a back leg from the elbow down, most likely amputated by a trap.

This is how she survived and to make matters worse she was constantly giving birth.

The local volunteers managed to save some of her puppies over time. but catching her was impossible. She was constantly in survival mode and although only having 3 legs she evaded capture no matter how hard the volunteers tried. That was until……..about 2 months ago when she gave birth again and shortly afterwards was hit by a car.

This tragic accident finally allowed the local volunteers to rescue her, but our relief was mixed with sorrow. Whist the accident left her spine intact, her one remaining back leg had suffered severe damage.

Sapphire is currently paralysed and has spent 3 weeks confined in a veterinary crate at the clinic of Dr. Nikos Ploumis. The vet has done everything possible to save her leg, and now her chance to walk again depends on a foster or forever home as she simply cannot be put back on the streets. As I type this, she has had complex surgery to attempt to fix the breaks. See photos below

Staying in the crate is worsening her condition. This sweet girl has been through so much. She is young about 4 years old and otherwise healthy, with a spirit that deserves peace and a life free from fear, pain, and the daily struggle to survive.

Here she is at the vets

So, this is where The Forgotten Paws of Greece have stepped in, but we do need Financial Support for her ongoing rehabilitation and care.

Sapphire is not currently sterilised, but we will get that done at a later date. Her latest puppies are safe at the municipal shelter and will also be available for adoption.

If anyone would be so kind enough to donate towards her care, we would be so grateful. This can be a one-off donation or if you prefer, please contact us if you would like to sponsor her on a monthly basis. This can be for whatever amount you would like.
If you prefer to donate to our Paypal please do so.

Sapphire is scheduled to arrive to us in Zakynthos next Friday 19th December just in time for a family Christmas with us all at the Forgotten Paws of Greece

Thank you for reading and your continued support.

Love and Best Wishes for a very Merry Christmas
