Hello, my name is Audrey Langenfeld. I am doing a fundraiser for Krung Thai Restaurant at 515 6th Street Racine, WI. I met the owners Noudeum Pophannouvong and his wife, Phaylakhone Alounlangsy, at the beginning of the Covid Pandemic just before the mandatory government shut down. During this time, they had to be close to the public for several months with no income or help with any expenses, especially rental expenses from the landlord. This government shutdown was extremely hard for Phaylakhone and her husband, Noudeum, a retired Air Force Veteran. Noudeum served as a pilot in Vietnam for 5 yrs, from 1965-to 1970. He flew a North American T-28 Trojan aircraft. So he saw war and conflict firsthand. When he retired from the Air Force, he settled in Milwaukee, WI, where he opened HongThia restaurant; in 2015 moved his business to Racine and Renamed it Krung Thia Restaurant.

Once the mask mandate was lifted and business could finally open their doors to the public, business did not pick up where they left off. It's been slow going, and the bills keep piling up. They are having a hard time paying rent and business-related expenses and with the never ending rise in inflation, their food bill is thru the roof. They are trying not to raise prices but find it hard not to do and the income that they do make just goes back into paying the bills.
