Hi. Brenda was found unconscious and not breathing on Sunday, May 5. She was coded for 10 minutes, and it was left unknown how long she was without oxygen. Sunday and Monday were a touch and go situation because we were left with unknown circumstances surrounding why she was down. After several tests were performed it was determined that she had pneumonia which turned to sepsis and found out she also had a strep infection. They performed compressions and CPR and shocked her heart. She was finally revived and had a pulse. She was immediately transported to the hospital. She was put on a ventilator as well as antibiotics after the tests determined she had infections and then other tests were performed. We were told that didn’t look like there was much hope but we decided to pray and not allow any negative talk to surround us and 40 minutes later she actually opened her eyes.
We were so excited she finally opened her eyes, but were still told by the doctors that she was not making any purposeful movements and again we chose to not believe that. On Monday and Tuesday she had her eyes open, but was not able to focus or really follow us around the room, but her eyes were opened. She was still sedated and in a lot of pain and still suffering from her infections but we remain hopeful that she would still come out of it, even though the doctor did not give much hope.
We were told to go home so she could rest because her body needed it and before we left, she actually was able to open her eyes and really look around, even though she wasn’t able to fully focus. She was able to open her eyes and she was trying to talk so they decided to take the next step and allow her to try on her own and she was able to do so and they decided to take out the ventilator.
She has undergone more test is still recovering from her infections, but is alive and well. She is very confused and not in her right mind due to her short term memory being affected. At this time we’re in the unknown because we’re not sure how long that will last if it’s permanent or not.
Friday, May 10 she had a procedure done and a pacemaker and a defibrillator was inserted so it can monitor her heart at all times. The procedure went well and she is in recovery as of now.
We are thankful for the miracle of life that was given back to her, but this is a long road of recovery and if you know, Brenda, you know that she is a hard worker and has worked her whole life. She hates to miss work. In fact she’s in the hospital asking to go to work even though she’s not allowed to go to work.
She is not going to work for unknown amount of time so we are asking for any help that you can give is obviously a blessing to her and allows her to not stress over bills and medical bills that will need to be covered while she’s out of work.
Anything you give is very much appreciated to her and will allow her to recover without feeling stressed over her medical or personal bills.
She loves each and every one of you and thanks everyone for all of their prayers and we look forward to getting our Brenda back!
