Title: Help Me Recover: Fighting Cancer, Homelessness & Car Debt
Hi, my name is Edward O Grady, and I'm reaching out during one of the most difficult periods of my life.
In 2021, while working full-time in Dublin, I bought a car on finance — something I needed to stay mobile and independent. Life was stable… until I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. I underwent major surgery and, despite everything, continued working for 2.5 to 3 years to keep up with my car payments and living expenses.
Eventually, I moved back to Sligo to recover, as my health declined further. Unfortunately, living with my elderly parents has been extremely difficult due to a strained relationship. Since then, I’ve faced more devastating news — I developed skin cancer and liver cancer.
Just 10 weeks ago, I had the skin cancer removed, and last week, half of my liver was surgically taken out at the Mater Hospital in Dublin in an effort to remove all traces of the cancer.
Now, I’m facing homelessness and have fallen into car arrears for the first time, after years of managing. I’m due to be discharged at the end of this week, but I have nowhere to go and urgently need help to:
Clear the car loan and avoid losing my only transportation
Secure a deposit and rent a place to live while I recover
This is not easy to ask, but I have no safety net left and would be incredibly grateful for any support — whether it’s €5, €10, or simply a share of this page.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any help you can give means the world to me.
With heartfelt thanks,
