Kristy Squires

Our Haunted Calgary family is devastated to share that Kristy Squires, beloved wife of Erik Pedersen, and best mama to Mia, Hailey, and Mikael, passed away last night, Saturday, May 3. Several of her close haunt family were honoured to be with her. We’re still trying to process a world without her sassy comebacks and infectious laugh.
Kristy was only 43 years old, and it’s completely incomprehensible that she’s gone. Though they were unable to identify a root cause, we do know that she was experiencing multi-organ failure. What never failed, though, was her wicked sense of humour. True to form, she was cracking jokes until the very end, giving us belly-hurt laughs through our tears.
Kristy wasn’t just a friend. She was family — the kind you choose, the kind you cling to in the dark with a flashlight and a chainsaw. Kristy has been a Haunted Calgary family member for well over a decade. We first met her through Girl Guides, where she, my mom, and I were all leaders of different units. Kristy brought her girls to help at our home haunt one day and well… she never left. My mom and Kristy bonded stuffing candy bags for the trick-or-treaters and that was that. Mum used to joke that Kristy was her favourite daughter. When Kristy called to beg Erik to help move something when he picked her up, we fell in love with the whole family. Hailey and Mikey instantly stole our hearts and toddler Mia became our youngest and cutest actor, falling asleep on the couch after making people pee their pants every haunt night.
If there was a haunt event, you knew that Kristy would be there. So much so that the day before she passed, she was asking about what’s next and fretting that she’d be missing something.
She did a bit of everything for the haunt, but front-of-house was her jam. That’s where her sharp wit, quirky banter, and slightly inappropriate jokes truly shined. Even in her final hours, she was worrying about missing the next event. That was Kristy — loyal to the bone, and likely haunting us already (she better be! We gave her strict instructions and told her that she can't get out of haunting that easily).
If someone needed something, Kristy would be there, no matter what. She was a faithful friend, genuine, and caring.
Now, it’s our turn to show up for her family.
Losing Kristy is a heartbreak we can’t fix — but we can help ease some of the burdens that come with sudden loss. Funeral costs. Time off work. Trying to figure out how to navigate life without your rock. It’s a lot. If Kristy ever made you laugh, hugged you too tight, or told you exactly what she thought with a wink and a grin, please consider donating — whatever you can.

You can donate directly through this GoFundMe or, if you’d prefer, send an e-transfer to [email redacted] — we’ll make sure Erik and the kids receive 100% of it.
Let’s give back to someone who never hesitated to give her all — to her friends, her family, and her chosen haunted family. We love you, Kristy. Always.
