To Walk Again.

My name is Kristopher and I'm 37 years old man. I'm asking that you please take a moment of your time to read my life altering journey. On November, 25, 2008 my life changed forever with an injury in a motor vehicle accident while on the job. The brakes of my company vehicle went out, as I was entering an intersection. As I desperately continued to push the peddle down I quickly realized that in order to not injure anyone I needed to make a sharp right turn to avoid any innocent bystanders.
Unfortunately, the company truck flipped sideways in the turn and landed upside down with my body twisted in the wreckage. Because I was awake during and after the accident I was shocked when I saw my right leg lay sideways, pressed against my chest. Instantly, I realized I was seriously injured. When I awoke at the hospital I learned that the accident had left me paralyzed from the waist down with a T-10 injury. Basically, my spinal nerve was pinched and I had lost all feeling and function in my lower extremeties. Luckily, my nerve had not been severed and since that time I have been in search of medical advancements that may allow me the opportunity to walk again. I believe that someday I will walk again, but I know this will not be possible without the generosity of others.
Recently, I 've learned of a doctor at STEMEDIX in St. Petersburg, FL, that is giving hope to others like myself to walk again. Dr. Lora Brown's procedure removes fat from my stomach, run it through their high tech machines to pull out my new stem cells from my fat that the body naturally produces. She will then create a lumbar puncture and place these newly formed stem cells back into my spine. Amazingly, my own stems cells know to go to the damaged area and will hopefully, reverse the damage from my accident in 2008. Will this procedure support me to walk again or at a minimum regain feeling in my lower extremities? It most certainly can and I truly believe if I can get my legs moving again, I will walk.
What you may not know if that because this accident was caused using a company vehicle, I am still under workers compensation and they will not assist me to be considered for this procedure. Because so many new advancements are happening with stem cell research and because this particular proceure is yet not FDA approved, worker's compensation will not help.
Since my accident in 2008, I have been relentless in my mission to find a procedure that will assist me to walk again. I have worked diligently to strengthen my core and upperbody strength, maintained my mental toughness and have pursued research on procedures that assist others with similar injuries. I have participated in and signed up for any and all expermental procedures, as I will never give up on my desire to walk again.
In learning more about what Dr. Brown's success rate has been with this procedure, some patients are walking upright and living their lives, as if this paralysis had never occured. Others have gained partial feeling in their lower extremities and if I could even gain just some feeling back it will open the door to new physical therapy and possibilities.
At this time, my attorneys are helping me to be a part of the C.O.R.E program in Orlando, Florida, as it is a physical therapy center. They are considering me for an outer skeleton system called the RE-Walk. This system will actually make me stand up and walk with a cane, which will assist me with blood flow, bowel movement, bone density and most importantly mental strength and the hope I need to continue moving forward. I truly believe in my mind and in my heart with these two new possibilities then nothing can stop me from actually walking on my own again.
So... here I am asking you to make my dream a reality, as you consider reaching into your hearts to make a donation for this procedure, so that I might walk again. In order to reach my goal, I will need to raise $15,000.00. Should you help me I will make sure to post videos on Facebook and YouTube of my procedure and the progress that I am making towards my dream to walk again. I want to make sure that you can see how your donation is helping me to walk.
Please know that I am happy with the person I have become and realize that everything that occured from that day in 2008 was for a reason. I hope that one day I will understand the purpose for this life altering accident, but until then I will continue to live my life to the fullest. Today, I continue to volunteer for Teens Sportsman Association, as a way to give back to young people by being their boat captain. I help teens as a mentor and assist them to experience the outdoors and fishing.
Thank you for taking the time to read my abbreviated story and I hope that you find it within your heart to assist me in my desire to walk again.
