July 25, 2020, marks the day that our son, Kristofer Thomas’ life drastically changed forever.  This day was long-awaited by Kristofer and his childhood friend as it gave them the opportunity to reconnect for the first time since the pandemic started.  He and the friends they invited planned for a fun and peaceful event filled with fun and laughter.  Unfortunately, as reported by several media outlets, this fun day turned into a traumatic experience for all in attendance.  This trauma is especially difficult for Kristofer as he comes to terms with the devastation caused to him and two other shooting victims, including his beloved childhood friend at the cookout.  Kristofer was rushed to the hospital after sustaining two potentially life-ending gunshot wounds, where he remains to this day. He will likely have more surgeries before being released, but he is a fighter and determined to make a strong recovery. Our son, who always greets everyone with a smile and a warm hug, who couldn’t wait to take his driving test in a few weeks, is now faced with doctors trying to save his right leg to hopefully be able to walk and function again as a thriving young adult. Though the road ahead will be a difficult one, we know Kristofer has within him the strength to prevail, and he will come out of this stronger than ever. Anyone who knows Kris, even after meeting him for only a short period of time, are inspired by his vibrant laid-back personality and positive energy.  We humbly ask for your compassion and generosity in this difficult time. This GoFundMe is put in place to help cover any medical costs and care Kristofer will incur due to his injury (hospital, medication, physical therapy etc.).  While undergoing intense therapy sessions multiple times a week, he will not be able to work, which is financially devastating for this goal-driven young man.  Whether big or small, any and every donation contributed will be used in funding Kristofer’s treatment and care.
