Kristi's fight against lung cancer

Donation protected
Hi, let me introduce one of my closest friends, her name is Kristi White, she is a 40-year-old mother of 2 handsome boys, Bradley and Chandler and a wonderful husband, Chris.

On the 18th of November Kristi started off down a journey of the unknown and on December 18 this year her whole world was rocked and turned upside down when she was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the lung.

What is adenocarcinoma lung cancer:

Lung Adenocarcinoma accounts for about 40% of all lung cancers.

Lung adenocarcinoma is a form of non-small cell lung cancer, the most common type of lung cancer. Non-small cell lung (NSCL) cancers account for 80 percent of lung malignancies, and of these, roughly 50 percent are adenocarcinomas.

Adenocarcinoma is today the most common form of lung cancer in women and people under the age of 45. Confoundingly, it is more likely to strike non-smokers (either never smokers or former smokers) than people who currently smoke. Lung adenocarcinomas usually begin in tissues near the outer portion of the lungs and may be there for a long time before symptoms appear. It tends to develop in smaller airways, such as bronchioles and is usually located more along the outer edges of the lung.

From what we have read, the 5-year survival rate, depending on the stage the cancer is at could be anywhere from 45% down to 14%.  Unfortunately, she has not been able to have her pet scan to date due to what is believed to be causing fluid buildup around her heart.

So how did this all come about?

It all started in October as she was preparing for her half Marathon in Las Vegas. When she returned she had knee surgery to repair her right knee. A few days later she had a tight chest and numbness in her left arm. She went to the ER expecting a blood clot and found that she had 2 liters of fluid around her hear and spots on her lungs. After spending the week of Thanksgiving in the hospital the fluid was drained and she returned home. After returning home ensued many tests to find the cause and for 3 weeks everything came up negative. One final test was a lung biopsy. The biopsy showed the Adenocarcinoma and more fluid building around her heart. She was again admitted to Cardiac ICU to have the fluid drained over the week of Christmas and returned home on Christmas day. Her first round of Chemo started the day after Christmas.

Why are we asking for your help?

This is the hardest thing we've ever had to do, being on the receiving end of requesting help.  Your generous donations will help pay for the numerous doctors’ visits, hospital stays, radiation, targeted medications, and possible travel (if required) to acquire the best available treatments, clinical trials and Oncologists.

Where to from here?

The road ahead is long and uncertain and until we know what Stage the lung cancer is at, we know she will stay strong, hopeful and positive that she will fight to be here as long as she can. She remains in good spirits and has a wonderful positive attitude.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and please share this post with anyone you feel may be interested. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and for all the love and support she has already received. This journey would be so much tougher without all of you. We love you all, we are so grateful for you and are humbled and are truly overwhelmed with everyone's willingness to help and be there for us. Thank you

This fundraiser has been setup to support Kristi, Chris and her family with further treatment and medical expenses.  All funds will be directly deposited into their account. Any additional funds not used for Kristi’s treatment will be donated to a Lung Cancer Research Charity.
