Dear Family and Friends,
We’ve started a GoFundme in hopes of securing financial assistance for Kristin because she has been unable to work and no longer receives disability from her employer. Thank you for considering our request and for taking the time to read Kristin’s story.
Living her best life in Charlotte, NC, our beloved Kristin suffered a heart attack on December 9, 2017, at the age of 28. Cardiologist worked to control spasms with medication and therapy which seemed to work. What they discovered six months after the attack was something no one expected. We were all devastated when doctors found a malignant mass was rapidly growing near her heart. She was diagnosed with a rare heart cancer called Sarcoma-- The cancer is so rare that symptoms are often mistaken for other illnesses and often diagnosed too late. Kristin’s life was saved by a low-grade fever which lasted for three days. Simple tests and due diligence by her primary care physician led to questions and more complex testing. She was hospitalized for 5 weeks last June in the intensive care cardiac unit where teams of specialists began an aggressive chemo regimen four days a week. They worked to shrink the mass, but not too fast because of the risk of cardiac arrest. At one point, cardiologists had to perform an emergency procedure to place a stent in an artery that was nearly closed. Kristin shared her story with only a few friends and family. As we all prayed, Kristin began a courageous fight for her life. She has remained brave and strong, enduring the horrific effects of chemo and physical stress of the mass which caused extreme discomfort, shortness of breath, weakness, loss of strength.
BUT God-- We serve an AWESOME God and we knew Kristin would fight the beast invading her body with every breath. Most of last year was spent in and out of the hospital with family traveling back and forth to Charlotte staying months at a time during critical periods of hospitalization. Because of this medical crisis, Kristin has exhausted her savings and has been forced to stay on medical leave without income for daily living expenses like rent, utility bills, car note, health insurance premiums, and medication. We are extremely blessed and know that with faith and prayer Kristin will get her life back and is already working with the hospital to help other young people stricken with this type of rare cancer. We are humbly asking family, friends, and supporters to come together to help with financial support during a very difficult time. We continue in prayer for Kristin’s complete recovery and strength.
Despite all her physical and financial challenges, she remains committed to helping other young people fighting cancer. On April 27th, Kristin will participate in the Levine Cancer Institute’s Sarcoma Stomp! Kristin’s Crusaders will join hundreds of others to fight this insidious rare cancer.
Our family would like to sincerely thank you for your love, prayers, friendship, support, and donations, which will greatly help her during this challenging time!
Love and Blessings to you all.
