Kristine Poe has been our friend since she joined our small group of homeschooling families almost 30 years ago. She was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 2008 and has grown increasingly disabled.
At 59, Kristine is now quadriplegic and cannot feed or dress herself, move her wheelchair, or even roll over in bed without assistance. Her current goal is to stay in her apartment as long as she possibly can.

Back when our kids were growing up, we all felt so lucky to have landed in a time and place where we could raise our kids together and support and love each other. Kristine was front and center with group projects and activities, helping others, a huge advocate for kids and parents, and a creative force with a big heart. She is smart, funny, fun, a loyal friend, and always one to give when she can. She raised two wonderful children, has three grandchildren she adores, and has always been independent and strong. You can imagine how difficult it is for her not to be able to care for herself and her needs.

Medi-Cal helps recipients by paying for care providers so they can safely remain in their homes. That money only covers a limited amount of caregiving. It also doesn't cover a reasonable wage for the kind of skilled care Kristine now needs. Her MS has progressed so that she no longer feels safe alone at night and needs round-the-clock help. Kristine has used up her savings and resources, and while her family helps all they can, they are at their limit.
Kristine’s circumstances are dire and immediate, but she is positive that her life will improve substantially with more professional help. She is fiercely independent, and we admire her will to thrive.
Our goal is to raise $25,000, which will be used to hire additional caregivers for the next several months so Kristine can stay home as long as possible.
Thank you for helping in whatever way you can.
