For over twenty years, Kristina (Hanson) Wagnitz has been the backbone of YMCA Camp Lincoln in Kingston, NH. In her role as Office Manager, she is the voice that all our camp families connect with the most. Despite camp growing year after year, Kristina remembers all of our 1,200 families and treats them as the individuals that they are. It is not uncommon to have families say “I love Kristina, she is amazing!” without ever having met her in person.
As many of you may know, just as the 2023 season was about to get underway at camp, Kristina was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Within weeks she started chemotherapy and underwent treatment throughout the summer. All while continuing to hold all the pieces together at camp. Last fall she had a double mastectomy and even while she recovered at home, she was planning and gearing up for 2024 camp registration.
Shortly before Kristina’s diagnosis, her husband Tony had purchased two tickets for a surprise trip to Iceland to celebrate their 20th anniversary. They had always dreamed of going, but with life and kids and work and bills they had never had the opportunity. As she started treatment he was hopeful that maybe they could just delay the trip a bit, but as medical bills started to mount, booking the rest of their trip became a major financial challenge.
After a lifetime of serving her community, Kristina deserves the adventure of a lifetime and we know there are so many of you who will agree. Whether your child attended camp, or was fortunate enough to be in Kristina’s Girl Scout troop, or you went to school with her, worked with her, went to camp with her, or have just had the pleasure of crossing her path, you know that she is one of a kind. Throughout her illness she has continued to care for not only her own family, but the Camp Lincoln family as well. Now Kristina’s family and friends, along with the Y community and our pals at the Lexie’s family of restaurants are coming together in an effort to raise the funds to cover Kristina and Tony’s trip to Iceland so they can truly enjoy this adventure together. We are asking the community to consider helping to make this well-deserved trip happen! Will you join us in support of the Wagnitz family?
We have a quick timeline on this as the plan is for them to travel the last week in February. We have set a goal of $5000* to cover all their travel, lodging, food, excursions, etc. Any excess funds raised will go towards offsetting Kristina’s considerable medical expenses. (*Goal has now been raised so that we can continue to raise funds that will make a huge impact towards medical costs - Thank you!)
THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO BRING AN AMAZING ADVENTURE TO AN AMAZING FAMILY!
