Hi friends, family, strangers!
My name is Kayla Goffinet, and I am Kristin Goffinet's little sister. But, this page isn't about me, its about my older sister.
My sister has been suffering from mental illness for as long as I can remember. She was diagnosed with depression when she was about twelve, and soon after, anxiety. In early college, she was diagnosed with Bipolar II disorder. At this point, she was on many many different medications. But, nothing ever seemed to really help. After many years of changing medications and nothing working, Kristin's frustration grew, and her hope began to deteriorate. But a couple years later, something re-sparked her hope.
There is something out there called Ketamine, which is a drug that tend to help mental illnesses including mood disorders, depression, and PTSD. There are ketamine infusions, which are intense, but helpful. My sister and mom decided to try them out. Kristin's first infusion was June 20th, 2018. She has been doing them almost every month since then, and it seems to be working. Kristin goes to the Midwest Ketamine Center which I linked their website here --> https://midwestketaminecenter.com/
Unfortunately, this treatment is not FDA approved, which means that it is not covered by insurance. So, it is $500 out of pocket every infusion. Sometimes, if the ketamine "wears off" quickly, Kristin may need another infusion in the same month, making that $1000 just for one month (2 infusions) of the treatment.
My mom is a single mom who single handedly pays for this, with the help of Kristin when she can swing it. In order for Kristin to feel like life is worth living, she needs to continue getting these infusions. My mom does everything she can for Kristin, but when something is this expensive, it can get difficult.
We as a family appreciate any donations we can get. My sister's life is the most important thing and knowing that when she can't get these infusions, she struggles to feel life is worth living, is terrifying. If I could pay for all of these infusions I would, but unfortunately I cannot. Which is why I chose to reach out.
If you are curious about how Kristin feels before and after infusions, she writes a blog about her experiences. I linked that here --> https://kristinketamine.fitness.blog/
Thank you for any support <3
