This was my daughter’s (Kristin, 22) first apartment. She got this apartment on her own in every way. Sadly, she lost everything Tuesday night, September 16th. While she was at work, a fire was accidentally started in a neighboring apartment. Kristin's cat, “Soup,” had to be rescued by the fire department. The fire was said to reach 1,000 degrees. Kristin had no idea what was going on until she pulled up to her apartment in her Uber at 11:15 pm. If you can imagine the horror and fear that immediately set in for Kristin. After I spoke to her over the phone (due to living over an hour away), her boyfriend rushed to her side. She took her cat and left in complete shock. The Red Cross was only able to assist with small funds for immediate help due to Kristin not staying at the scene and waiting for them. We had no idea she was supposed to wait for them. After a few days, we were excited to hear her grandpa's ashes necklace and memorial frame were saved in this fire! A few other items, such as her guitar and some little knick-knacks, were also saved. Besides that, she’s lost everything! She left that night with her cat and the clothes on her back. We have found out the apartment complex is re-housing her. This won’t be available until October 14th. I wanted to do this fundraiser for Kristin to lessen a burden on her shoulders. Kristin works as a care provider. She Ubers to work every day because her car is broken at the mechanic's. She doesn’t let anything hold her back. Even after all of this, we have still been able to share lots of smiles and hold faith that everything will be okay. I would love to be able to help her with a month's rent or furniture, something to ease the pain.
