I remember a few years ago seeing the woman I wanted to become and just praying, asking God to show me how to get there. I didn’t know yet that the more I exposed myself to, the more I desired to know about him or how much the desire to be a kingdom warrior would be pressed on my heart and ingrained in my daily life.
A little over a year ago I made a Spiritual Bucket List, writing down many of the things I wanted to accomplish in his name for the upcoming years. - I wanted to read the bible all the way through. I made a goal to attend the Pinky Promise Conference hosted by Heather Lindsey. I promised to honor God’s calling in Matthew 28:19 and “go and make disciples of all nations”; I wanted to lead small groups and give my time willingly. I need to be sure I served with a joyful heart; I sought to effortlessly give away treasures of this world to prove to myself where my heart found most of its joy (Matthew 6:21 - For where your treasures are, there your heart will also be). I wanted to do A LOT more, and I needed to map out how to get there!
As I sat and reviewed this list, the one thing I realized was that none of these things were out of my reach. Collectively it might sound like a lot, but when broken down into bite size pieces, I began to see that the only thing getting in my way was me.
I started reading my bible a little longer in the mornings and finally finished it the first time through (testimony @ top link). I booked my ticket to Heather Lindsey’s conference in Atlanta and hopped on that plane not knowing a soul at this 3-day event, but trusting God to show up and unite me with my perfect people (and my DID he!). I started trusting the Holy Spirit more. I rejoined my Discipleship Group, which is now preparing me to lead my own group of women, and I am finally being obedient with my spiritual gifts and using them to further lead with the worship team. Through doing all of this, God revealed to me times when I should have leaned into him more and surrendered to him sooner. It has been both humbling and eye opening.
While these are all small strides in my book, the spiritual preparation and discipline required changes at every level.
The way I came to know God and truly see him was through prayer.. Not scriptures.. Not fellowship, but prayer. It took months of silence to finally be able to see what he was writing and understand a little bit of what was to come. Today, this part of my spiritual journey is of no exception. Knowing I wanted to serve the kingdom on a mission trip, I began to pray about this back in September and every time the children’s mission trip came up, my spirit was completely stirred. I knew that God was calling me “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14) and that this very trip would be my next step of kingdom work.
We are told in Romans 12: 6-8 that “6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
I am posting today asking you to be a part of this spiritual journey and the next thing I want to accomplish for the kingdom of God, the Belize Children’s Mission Trip. This July I am heading there with a team to teach a Children’s Vacation Bible School and completely submerge myself in their culture, their lives, and their hearts for the duration we are there. It is an intimidating thought at times, but hesitant I am not, for I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am called to do this, and this is my next step.
First and foremost, I can go MUCH MUCH FURTHER with your prayers than with monetary donations. I ask for each of you reading this to keep my team in your prayers. I ask for prayer over our travels, over the missionaries hosting us, over our connections with the children. I ask for prayer over our interactions, over the way the lesson is taught and how it is received, prayers that God is able to truly capture their hearts and that impacts are made that will last a lifetime. I pray that we are all able to step aside and allow God to use us as vessels in his name any way possible. I also ask you for prayer over our worship time when we gather together.
My goal today is to raise $2,200 for this mission trip by the end of June through my Go Fund Me page. If you find it pressed on your heart to donate, Thank you! I am truly grateful and blessed for your all of your cheerful generosity.
Either way, I want to thank you for taking the time to read a little bit of my journey above (or in the link). I am so thankful for all of your support and encouragement during this time. May God bless you and you always find the strength to rise up and live greater. If ever you need some encouragement in that, I am just a message away.
With Christ’s Love,
Kristi-Lynn
