Kristie's Battle with Cancer
Donation protected
This account has been created to raise funds for the Nesbitt family as Kristie Nesbitt battles breast cancer.
Ben, Kristie, Elliott (son), and Alfie (dog) Nesbitt moved from Calgary, AB in fall of 2013 to start a new life in Swift Current, SK. The family moved as Ben transitioned into a management role with Scotiabank, and Kristie left her job with GrainCorp to focus her time on raising their young boy, Elliott. Kristie also developed her passion of photography into the the Swift Current business success story, Elli-Belle Photography (https://www.facebook.com/Elli-Belle-Photography-1476677222568437/?pnref=lhc).
Kristie was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in the summer of 2016. The experience has just begun as Kristie is set to undergo a single mastectomy on September 27th, 2016, with chemotherapy and an intense regiment of radiation to follow. The second mastectomy will be done after treatments to avoid complications that could cause a delay in treatment for the cancer that has spread to lymph nodes. The National Center for Biotechnology Information estimates that the lifetime cost per case of treating women diagnosed with breast cancer ranged from $23,275 - $36,340. Costs include travel, treatments, medication, sacrificed employement income, etc.
The family has had their fair share of struggles:
- Ben was first diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2007, was treated, then diagnosed again for a second time in 2012. Thankfully, Ben is now in remission after a second treatment.
- Elliot (4 years old), was diagnosed with autism in June of 2014. Although few can empathize, one can certainly understand the challenges that come along with raising a child with autism. There are, without a doubt, joyous moments, but there is no denying the psychological, societal, financial, and other difficulties parents face.
I had the pleasure of meeting and befriending the Nesbitt's during my 2.5yr work stint for Scotiabank in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The family has left an unforgettable impression on me, similar to anyone else who has had the opportunity of meeting the family.
Any donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated, and all funds go directly to helping the Nesbitt's out through this difficult time.
