Kristen- ISU World Figure Skating Championships

Hi, my name is Diana and I’m raising funds for inspirational British figure skater Kristen Spours who has been selected to represent Great Britain at the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama, Japan in March.

Kristen will be the only British woman in the Ladies’ category after achieving the required qualifying score at international events this season.

As well as representing her country Kristen’s selection presents an amazing opportunity to showcase the best of British ice skating on the world stage and to inspire and motivate skaters across the country here in the UK.

Kristen’s story is especially inspirational as a serious back injury in 2019 left her without feeling in one of her legs.

Instead of surgery, Kristen spent two years having physiotherapy and relearning to skate.

Covering her story as part of a recent documentary ‘Freeze ’, the BBC describe her as a ‘warrior’.

It has been a long hard-fought journey back to form and representing her country at the most prestigious figure skating competition in the world marks the culmination her grit, determination, dedication and love of the sport.

However, as figure skating is a minor sport in the UK, there is little funding available by way of grants and sponsorship and Kristen is entirely self-funded.

While the national skating body can get her to the championships, the costs are prohibitively expensive and include on and off ice training, coaching and rink fee, kit including skates, costumes, petrol, physiotherapy.

Kristen spends hours a week commuting between her training rink at Swindon and Nottingham where she is a coach.

By donating to her training fund you will be supporting her efforts, facilitating her ability to train full-time and prepare to the highest standard for her performance at ‘Worlds’.
