Those of you who know my niece Krista know she’s a smart, determined and special young woman of 30 years despite her struggles with muscular dystrophy. The day after Christmas, Krista fell from her wheelchair and broke both her legs. For most people this would be bad enough, but for Krista it’s much more serious. She is spending 3 weeks in the hospital enduring two emergency operations and physical and occupational therapy. Her doctor said her bones were like those of a 90-year-old person.
Krista’s inability to care for herself during this slow and painful process of recovery will require costly intervention that she cannot provide for herself.
Your donation will be put to good use towards her hospital bills, desperately needed in-home healthcare, and other expenses she will incur to restore her dream of an independent life.
More about Krista
Two high school friends wrote in 2007 these words honoring Krista for her leadership of their club:
“Life has given Krista a harder path than most. Yet through all her physical difficulties, Krista meets life with determination. She doesn’t back down from any challenges but meets them head-on with grace and courage. Her compassion for others and her positive attitude combine to make Krista a friend to all who encounter her.”
Today, as Krista advances in her studies toward her masters in biology sciences at Auburn, she also works as a teaching assistant. Unfortunately, her earnings, while small, are above the eligibility levels for Medicaid assistance. Having no earned income now or in the near future as she recovers, she is in desperate need of assistance to cover the costs of her health insurance including deductibles and co-pays as well as in-home health care, which isn't covered by her insurance.
Despite her affliction with muscular dystrophy, Krista has worked so hard. Any donation you can make will lessen the burden of her medical expenses and restore her focus on achieving her dream of independence.
