A few years ago, my oldest granddaughter, Krista Page, was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. It recently progressed to ESRD, End Stage Renal Disease (Stage 5) which is the last stage of kidney disease in which the kidneys cannot function any longer and are unable to keep up with the daily needs of the body. At this stage, dialysis or a kidney transplant is needed to treat the disease.

Yesterday she had vein mapping done which is a performed to see the size and depth of her veins under her skin for placement of a fistula for dialysis. Today she is having the procedure to place the tubes in her chest.

As of now she will be having dialysis three times a week two to four hours each secession. Her insurance covers only a percentage of the cost for doctor visits which are $120 to $150 each visit and the high cost of her meds. (One drug cost over $1200 for a 90-day supply). Medicare Part B, which is necessary to get dialysis benefits, cost more than $1oo per month.  Typically, a single hemodialysis treatment cost up to $500 or more for each of the three time per week visits.

We are reaching out for help with what I am sure will be mounting medical bills and for what will be a long road to recovery.
