Krista Bryan is a single mother of three who is going through a challenging time and could really benefit from a little love and support. For a long time, she has needed to make frequent visits to the hospital where her son Jaxon’s severe asthmatic episodes are treated with ventilation and steroid medication . But as of late, these treatments have been less effective, and Jaxon has had to stay in hospital for up to a week at a time to ensure his oxygen levels are maintained and stable. On a recent visit to their paediatrician, it was discovered that Jaxon was experiencing an ‘intercostal retraction,’ which is a severe asthmatic reaction where his chest caves in with the potential of putting pressure on his heart. Krista is doing everything the paediatrician and respiratory therapist have advised her to do to care for her son, but following these directives is currently keeping her from being able to work. Krista is the sole source of income for her family and has now been without a paycheque for two months, and the bills and rent are becoming overdue.

I worked with Krista at the New Fountain Shelter in Vancouver’s DTES, and i can attest first-hand to the caring support she brings to her position as a mental health care worker. The depths to which she cares about people is obvious and heartwarming. Some days at work can be challenging, but nothing compares to what Krista is currently going through as she watches her boy fighting to breathe so often in hospital. It would be so awesome for Krista to feel supported in these difficult times.
