Help Krissy get a life changing brain surgery

Donation protected
My name is Erin Harrington and I am Krissy Klein’s sister in Christ as well as her best friend for 24 years. I decided to create this GoFund Me account for Krissy and her family as an attempt to help them in this time of need. I also wanted to reach out to anyone who has it in their heart help another human being in time of need, regardless if you personally know Krissy or her family. I ask everyone who reads this to be open to helping Krissy and her family in any way you can - whether that is in the form of prayer, signing up to prepare a meal and/or a monetary donation.

To give you some background information, it all began with Krissy experiencing health issues on June 3, 2018, after trying to pick up their 11-month-old son, Kason, she almost dropped him and began yelling for her husband through the window for help. She didn’t know what was wrong, but knew it wasn’t good. Chad ran into the house to find Krissy having difficulty breathing, while unable to move her left arm and could not move her neck. Over the next few hours she gradually was able to move her neck and like the tough woman she is minimized her episode by contributing it to a pinched nerve or strained muscle. Her husband was still nervous about what had happened, he took her to the doctor and an MRI was ordered. Krissy’s results came back with confirmed diagnosis of Chiari malformation.

This condition occurred when the section of Krissy’s skull containing a part of her brain (cerebellum) was too small or is deformed, putting pressure on and crowding her neural tissue. The lower part, or tonsils, of the cerebellum are displaced into her upper spinal canal which interferes with the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid that protects her brain and spinal cord, causing a blockage of signals transmitted from her brain to herbody. Alternatively, the pressure from the cerebellum upon the spinal cord or lower brainstem has such an impact it has caused various neurological signs/ symptoms. During her last visit with her neurosurgeon, although missing from her MRI result, her physician recognized In Krissy also developed a condition called syringomyelia, in which a cavity or cyst (syrinx) forms within the spinal column.

This condition not only had an impact on Krissy’s neuro, but now has moved to her muscles further down through her vertebrae. Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic procedureKrissy underwent to assess the health of her muscles and the nerve cells that control them (motor neurons). EMG results can reveal nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission. The results showed there is evidence of a bilateral C1-C7 cervical myelopathy with mild sub-acute denervation and severe chronic CRD (complex rep discharge) bilaterally. Basically, as one doctor described, the crowding at above her C1 (Brain/ Spinal cord at the foreman magnum) has begun to descend impacting her entire cervical and associated muscles among other very important motor control nerves. If left untreated she may possibly be wheelchair bound and most likely unable to regain her muscles to their original state.

After 10 months of running tests and seeing her symptoms worsen, Brain Decompression Surgery has been determined by her doctor to be the only option to stop the progression of her symptoms worsening and to ultimately be bound to a wheelchair the rest of her life. The surgery has been scheduled for April 12, 2019 with a four day ICU stay, followed by an anticipated two week rehabilitation stay.

Krissy Klein, wife to Chad Klein, mother to Payton and Kason, bonus mom to Taylor, Bailee, Kailyn and Bryden, Daughter of the Most High, daughter to Bill and Paula, and bonus daughter to Mark and Rueanna, granddaughter, niece, sister, aunt, USAF Veteran and Registered Nurse, friend to many, needs your prayers, support, all forms of donations all welcomed and appreciated.
