“Krishna Lunch has changed my life. It gives me a space to feel at home at college—the smells, music, and food, the joy of serving and connecting with others. I can’t wait for next semester!”
— Ada, University of Florida freshman and Krishna Lunch volunteer
For over 50 years, Krishna Lunch has nourished students at the University of Florida with prasādam, friendship, kīrtan, and inspiration. Krishna Lunch also funds Krishna Cares, which distributes more than twenty thousand free meals every year to those in need in Gainesville.
Krishna Lunch is entirely supported by donations, and in recent years donations have decreased. Since COVID, far fewer students, faculty, and staff eat lunch on campus. Even so, our volunteer team continues to serve nutritious prasādam to the UF community and the needy every weekday.
An endowment fund is being developed to secure Krishna Lunch for the future. But right now, after fifteen years of constant use, our Krishna Lunch truck and carts are worn out beyond repair. Replacing them with a regular pickup truck, a dedicated Krishna Lunch trailer, and new food carts will keep the program running efficiently and reliably.
The total cost is $30,000, which is beyond our current budget.
Cost breakdown:
$15000 for a new/used truck + $7500 8x14 ft Trailer. New box truck with the right lift gate is also an option for us.
$7500 for 4 new custom electric food carts
This holiday season, please help us continue serving fresh meals, warm smiles, and spiritual nourishment on the Plaza—just as we’ve done since 1971. New transportation will keep Krishna Lunch rolling for Ada and for the next generation of students.
Please donate today and help keep Krishna Lunch going strong.
Thank you.
