Scott and Brooke welcomed their beautiful baby boy, Krew Lane Johnson into the world the morning of February 18th. After spending 2 months in the hospital due to Brooke being unexpectedly admitted for pre-term labor at 24 weeks.. What should have just been a routine doctor’s appointment turned out to be the start of a long journey. It was identified at 25-weeks that Krew would be born with a possible Esophageal Atresia also known as EA. Esophageal atresia is a rare birth defect that occurs when the esophagus forms in two separate segments that don't connect, preventing a baby from swallowing and can also affect breathing.
During the 2 long months at the hospital while doing everything possible to keep baby Krew in, Brooke faced multiple health concerns including severe polyhydroamnios, where there was too much amniotic fluid surrounding Krew. Multiple accompanied procedures were completed in attempt to help and also tackling a DVT blood clot in the midst of it all. After a little jump of success, mom and baby did great for about a week or so.. then Brooke started having excruciating pain trying to keep Krew in. The medical team determined inducing at 34 weeks was the best option for both mom and baby. KREW IS COMING!
Feb 18, 1:34 am.
Krew was born beautifully and perfect with the exception of a confirmed esophageal atresia, being in the care of NICU since birth.
The Johnsons are now facing a new challenging journey. Krew has been transferred to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida to await surgery. Krew and Brooke will be relocating to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area full time for the foreseeable future. Scott will be commuting between St. Petersburg and Destin (7 hr drive) as often as possible with the possibility of having to fully relocate as well, dependent on Krew’s recovery.
Krew’s journey is expected to be long and exhausting for all three of them. The belief is that the procedure itself may take a few weeks to complete (multiple procedures done throughout the week.. for multiple weeks) followed by several months of recovery.
As Krew continues to fight, the emotional and financial toll on the family grows heavier each day. Brooke and Scott are currently juggling the overwhelming responsibility of caring for their newborn while also facing the challenge of relocating to a new city where Krew will receive his care. In addition to the medical treatments, hospital stays, and the necessary specialized care that are all mounting quickly, they are dealing with the financial strain of being away from home and work during this time.
By donating to this GoFundMe, you’re not only helping Krew receive the urgent care he needs but also providing much-needed relief to the Johnson Family as they navigate this stressful period. Your generous support will help cover medical bills, travel expenses, and allow them to focus on being together as a family, without the constant worry of how to make ends meet.
No amount is too small—every donation, no matter how large or small, is a step toward helping this family stay strong during this challenging journey. We are so grateful for your kindness, and with your help, we can give Krew and his parents the chance to heal, both physically and emotionally.
