Officer Kreig, 28, is a lifelong resident of Cranford, New Jersey. She graduated from the John H. Stamler Police Academy in December 2016. Ashley was a squad leader and she excelled physically in the program. During her free time, she trained and competed in numerous body building events winning many awards. Prior to suddenly becoming ill, Officer Kreig was assigned to the Sheriff’s Community Policing Unit where she worked jointly with the Elizabeth Police Department.
As a result of her illness, Officer Kreig was in ICU for several weeks before being diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis. This is a condition that mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells. Subsequently she was transferred to a long-term care and rehabilitation facility. CURRENTLY Ashley does not have optimal brain function. She cannot do the simplest of tasks that we take for granted every day. She cannot walk or stand on her own, and needs assistance with all of her daily personal needs.
Ashley has since been released and is currently home. We knew that Ashley would need wheel chair access to her home and ramp installation was quoted at approximately $5,000.00. Together we pulled our resources and Union County Sheriff Officers volunteered their time and supplies and were able to install a ramp at Ashley's home.
We are doing all that we can to alleviate the financial burden Ashley may face so she can focus all of her efforts on a potential full recovery.
To assist Ashley we are hosting a fundraising event on September 14th to be held at the Knights of Columbus of Union, 1034 Jeanette Ave, Union NJ.
