Hi my name is Beverley, today I'm reaching out to you with a heavy heart but also a hopeful spirit.
Keith has spent years supporting those affected by leukaemia, raising approximately £40,000 through various fundraising events, including running seven London marathons for his step-sister's fight against the disease. His compassion and selflessness have inspired so many, and now, it's out turn to support him.
We came to Spain on a Non-Lucrative Visa to explore the possibility of moving here. We took out health insurance as recommended and believed we'd have the same coverage as Spanish residents.
Unfortunately, shortly after our arrival, Keith was diagnosed with cancer. While our first instinct was to return to the UK, Keith was determined to stay and fight his battle. We were initially told that the costs for PET scans, chemotherapy and radiotherapy would be covered. We made the choice to stay, and the hospital has been amazing, but our insurance has not covered the full cost of Keith's chemotherapy drugs. While we were able to manage some of these costs, we recently found out that the radiotherapy is also not covered. Today whilst he attended the hospital for his 4th chemo he has now been charged for his anti-sickness drug the bill just grows. The hospital have never had this happen before
We've asked our insurance provider to find us an alternative hospital where treatment would be covered, but we are still waiting for a response and we need to start the treatment soon.
Additionally, we were informed by the insurance company that it was the British Consulate's error that allowed our visa application.
I know that some might say we should accept our situation, but after all that Keith has done for charitable causes, and especially as I am also raising funds here in Spain for a local cancer charity, I believe we deserve a little help during this tough time.
This journey is not only emotionally challenging but also financially burdensome. Please know that we are doing our best, and we are living on savings while facing mounting bills.
Thank you for understanding and for any support you can provide. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference and allow us to focus on what truly matters - Keith's recovery and well being. Together, we can show Keith that he is not alone in this fight.
With regards
Beverley
