We are raising money to support Fort Wayne's homeless community through our group, The M.I.S.F.I.T.S. (Moving In Spiritual Fellowship Including Those Suffering), by serving them each week.
Hi. My name is Donnie Foster. I am passionate about homelessness because I once was homeless. I was introduced to the men and women on the streets of Fort Wayne 8 years ago. I was invited to go out with a friend and his group. They would bring donated hygiene items, food, and water, and spend time talking with them and praying for them. This fanned my passion into flames and opened my eyes to the men and women sleeping under bridges and on benches! I never realized they were right under my nose. I began going out with my son after that, and we have been faithfully serving the homeless every Sunday night since. We pick up cheeseburgers and water, go to them downtown, and spend some time sharing our lives. Our group has grown and now we have anywhere from 10-30 people that come out to serve. Most find that in their pursuit to be a blessing, they themselves are blessed.
These men and women that we see each week have much need, in the way of tangible things. But more importantly, they need to know they are loved. That they are not forgotten. That there is hope because God loves them. Our desire is to bring this hope to them by first filling their bellies. We then have their attention and they are receptive to our message.
We need funding to continue purchasing the cheeseburgers and water each Sunday, as well as other essential items such as: gloves, scarves, hats, hand warmers, blankets, coats, sleeping bags, tents, etc. Sometimes we purchase a bus ticket, or sit with them during a court hearing to let them know we care. We want to be there for them to offer them a hand up, especially when they are trying so hard to change. We are also looking to purchase a passenger van to transport them to church. We purchase 132 cheeseburgers each Sunday and pass them all out. The need is there.
In the time we have been doing this, we have seen many regain control of their lives. Many have gotten jobs, moved into their own apartments, and/or gotten married. Praise God that He uses His people to help one another. We are thankful to do what we do!
We meet downtown at the Burger King on Jefferson and Lafayette at 7:30 pm on Sunday evenings. We pick up our cheeseburgers and head to Freimann Square. From there we go to the rescue mission. There are times we go under the bridges and other places as needed. Anyone is welcome to come check it out!
Any questions, please don't hesitate to call.
Thank you!
