Andrew's Eagle Project

Hi, my name is Andrew, I'm 17 years old and a junior in high school. I've been a scout since 1st grade and a member of Troop 800 in Kissimmee, Florida. I'm currently a Life Scout working on my Eagle Project.

The Eagle Project will be at my former school, Bellalago Academy in Kissimmee, Florida. My plan for this project is to create butterfly gardens that will beautify the place, but more importantly, attract pollinators. Pollinators are important to the community as three-fourths of the world's flowering plants and about 35% of the world's food crops depend on animal pollinators to reproduce (USDA.gov). Through the creation of these butterfly gardens, pollinators can find the proper quality and quantity of food they need to survive. In addition to this, I am planning on adding an outdoor classroom allowing students to have a hands-on experience learning about the life cycle of butterflies as well as their importance as pollinators. I also plan on providing butterfly kits to all six 2nd-grade classes to maximize this experience.
