Our family is facing an unimaginable situation, and we are asking for help during one of the most difficult moments of my sisters life.

My sister is currently hospitalized at Akron Cleveland Clinic hospital with a severe and life-threatening case of pneumonia. Despite exhausting every available treatment option, her body has not responded as doctors had hoped, and they do not yet know why. A lung biopsy was considered, but due to the extreme risk of anesthesia causing her to stop breathing, it is no longer an option. Her lungs are now struggling to function, and doctors have no choice but to place her on a ventilator.

While she fights for her life, her greatest fear is not herself — it is her children. My sister is the sole caregiver for her 21-year-old son with severe autism, who will never be able to work or care for himself independently. He relies on her for everything. She also has another son at home, and there is no immediate family able to step in as caregivers. The uncertainty of what will happen to her boys weighs heavily on her heart every day. She loves them so much and is so afraid.

To make matters worse, just months ago, her husband abruptly left the family without warning. When he left, he emptied their bank accounts, took their only vehicle, and left them behind with nothing. She has been doing everything in her power to hold her family together and make sure her boys are always okay and now she is facing this devastating medical crisis with no financial safety net.
