Hi friends and family!
Through a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to embark on a four week medical mission trip to San Jose, Costa Rica! I will be volunteering with IVHQ, using the skills and knowledge I have acquired over the past 25 years to assist wherever there is a need. I have requested a placement in Women's Health or HIV/AIDS healthcare project for the four weeks, enabling me to become efficient and provide the best care and assistance in the short time I am volunteering.
I have been practicing as a pediatric RN for a little over two years now, and it has been both challenging and rewarding. Through this journey, I have felt as if my skills and knowledge could, and should, be stretched farther to make a greater impact on the world. Global health has always been an interest of mine, and I was given the opportunity to do my first medical mission trip to Belize in 2010 during nursing school. Since then, I have had the desire to serve globally as an independent nurse. Now, I finally have the time and flexibility to make this happen!
A Hawaiian parable to put things into prespective--
A man goes out on the beach and sees that it is covered with starfish that have washed up in the tide. A little boy is walking along, picking them up and throwing them back into the water.
"What are you doing, son?" the man asks. "You see how many starfish there are? You'll never make a difference."
The boy paused thoughtfully, and picked up another starfish and threw it into the ocean.
"It sure made a difference to that one." he said.
Saving the world seems like an impossible task, but with your help, we can get started! Please help me get to Costa Rica, so we can make a difference. LET'S SAVE THE WORLD!
