Don protégé
Hi everyone. My name is Haley Dakich and I'm setting up this GoFundMe for my father. We found out today that he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). Essentially his bone marrow does not produce healthy red and white blood cells or platelets the way it should. He is scheduled to go meet with the Bone Marrow Transplant clinic in Atlanta this week to see what the next steps are in moving towards the Stem Cell transplant that he needs. We are unsure of what costs insurance will cover, if any, but we will update once we have more information.
He has been out of work for just shy of two months and will have to continue to be out of work for an undetermined amount of time. He will be in the hospital for several weeks, starting with chemotherapy to eradicate his non-working bone marrow. Once a donor is found, the process of transplanting the healthy marrow will begin, leaving him with no immune system until the new stem cells begin to work. He will be in isolation at Northside in Atlanta while he recovers.
A little about Kevin. He was born in Ohio and graduated from Heath High School in 1981. He moved to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio TX shortly after and completed basic training and began his education in Radiography. He was in the Reserves for 7 years, after his move to GA in 1982. He gained his registry once in GA and has been active in the field for the past 33 years. He is the father to three daughters and the Papa to two granddaughters. He and his wife Gail are active members at Piedmont United Methodist Church.
Ultimately, this fund is set up to help Kevin and Gail with finances. They will be traveling to and from Atlanta for appointments and then with the continuance of being out of work, there is no income on his end. Gail is unable to work due to cardiac health issues and with Kevin being out of work, everyday bills as well as medical bills, are becoming a burden.
I ask for any help. We appreciate any and every penny that can be offered to help keep them afloat as they get him on the road to recovery.
