Kingston's Fight for Life

At 28 weeks Kingston was diagnosed with a skeletal dysplasia that gave him a very low survival rate at birth. With lots of prayers and a great team of doctors and nurses he has already beaten those odds but still has quite a journey ahead of him.

Kingston J was born on Sunday, September 5th at 2:09 am. He was 7.5 lbs and 19” long, with a full head of beautiful dark hair!

He was born not breathing and was immediately rushed to the NICU to be intubated. Preston was able to go with him, and Jamie had to wait to see him for about 2 hours. (Longest 2 hours of her life)

By the time she saw him he was stable on a ventilator and with a feeding tube. On Monday September 6th he was transferred to Phoenix Children’s Hospital because they have more specialists and are better equipped to care for him there. Shortly after he arrived they took him into surgery to have a PIC line inserted.

Since then, they have been able to lower his ventilator settings, but he is still very dependent on it. His lungs are too small to fully operate on their own, and are unable to grow and fully expand because of his small rib cage. The doctors have not given a diagnosis because there is such a broad spectrum of possibilities. They want to to give him the absolute best outcome, and not have a specific diagnosis restricting the scope of his care.

There is no telling how long he will need to stay in the NICU or need any type of breathing assistance. Jamie and Preston have been meeting with multiple doctors, surgeons and specialists to see what his future holds and what surgeries he may need, but it is too soon to tell what his little body is going to need yet. All we know is that there is a long road ahead to get this little miracle baby on a path to living a full healthy life.

Thankfully, the doctors and nurses have been incredible and so accommodating. Jamie is able to hold him all day every day, regardless of his breathing tube and all the other wires and tubes he’s connected to, and shower him with so much love. He LOVES to be held by his mama and is able to relax in her arms. Thomas and Ace have yet to meet their new baby brother and are not allowed into the hospital because of Covid restrictions. They are anxiously awaiting the day Kingston can come home so their whole family can finally be together.

Unfortunately, life does not get put on pause when we are dealing with such great trials and life changing experiences. Jamie is not working right now and is traveling 45 min to and from the hospital every single day. On top of the accumulating medical bills, they also have to think about their normal monthly expenses now being taken care of by only one income. We are not sure what these next few weeks, months and years have in store for their family. Any donations to help with Kingston’s medical bills are so greatly appreciated. Any amount helps, and if you are unable to help financially please share his story and keep him, his family and all of his care takers in your prayers.

Thank you for your support and continued prayers.
