Learning Support Library
KIPP Philadelphia Charter school is located in North Philadelphia and serves a population of about 350 students in grades 5-8. The mission of KIPP Philadelphia Charter School is to develop the character, knowledge, and skills of our students so they will succeed in top-quality high schools, college, and the competitive world beyond.
Since many of our students come to us below grade level, we have a significant need for reading materials that are both engaging and appropriately leveled. We are hoping to purchase three Saddleback box sets (links below) containing content that is relevant and age-appropriate, but also decodable for our students who are still developing their reading skills. In August, we will be moving to a new building with more space for special education services. We would love to start our 2016-2017 school year with these books so that our students feel included and excited about reading!
If we are able to purchase these books, our Learning Support caseloads of close to 100 students will have access to books that look and feel more age-appropriate than other books that may be on their reading level. This will help them to proudly incorporate reading into their daily lives. Our goal is to expose them to accessible books of interest so that they develop a lifelong love of reading. Since one of KIPP's missions is that "ALL the children are well," we would like to express our deepest, most sincere gratitude for any donation that is provided to our kids!
