Y’all, I have some exciting news to share! Guess who’s having a solo exhibit in the fall? This guy right here! In September at the Durham Arts Council I will have my first solo exhibition. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about this opportunity. There are a few things I’m going to need your help with, but let me tell ya about the exhibit first. :-)
The exhibition will be centered around the Black family and it’s titled “Behind the Mask”.
Quick Blurb about “Behind the Mask”:
The mask has become a part of Black existence. It's purpose, for generations, has served hiding our pain and joy for survival in white spaces. This exhibition will visually explore Black individuality and the myriad of emotions Black families experience behind the mask. 100% of profits from art sales will be donated to “The Village of Wisdom” . "The Village of Wisdom", is a Durham based organization whose mission is to "Close the academic opportunity gap by protecting the intellectual curiosity and positive racial self-concept of Black children through the love and wisdom of their families and communities."
Here is where I need your help:
I need help covering the costs of this exhibit. I plan to display 10 pieces at 24x36. Each piece will be crafted using pigment ink on archival paper and will be framed. The total costs are $3,000. Any amount that you can contribute to this project will greatly be appreciated. For accountability purposes I will be providing a google drive link with links to receipts. Any funds raised over the goal will be donated to “Village of Wisdom”. The total goal for Village of Wisdom is $10,000.
Also, I plan to spend time documenting Black families over the next two months. If you would like your family considered please sign up at the link below or if you know a family that would be interested please feel free to share. Please consider sharing this with families who may not have access to fine art family photography.
