Kozakov Foundation - Arts & Design Education

Ten years ago, on April 22nd, 2011, I lost my loving father, Mikhail Kozakov, to a battle against lung cancer. While I had the immense privilege to call him 'papa,' for millions of people in the USSR and the Russian-speaking population worldwide, he was a renowned actor, director, and catalyst of culture.
After his break-out film, "Murder on Dante Street" (1956), M.M. Kozakov went on to star in and direct other films such as "Amphibian Man" (1961), "Zdravstvuyte, Ya Vasha Tyotya!" (1975), "Bezymyannaya Zvezda" (1979), and "The Pokrovsky Gate" (1983). Throughout his life, he appeared in 90+ productions as an actor and directed over 15+ works, amassing national and international recognition.
While MMK's commercial success is undeniable, his life and work represent creating work that is, above all, culturally important. Even in his last year of life, he spent time on stage, reciting Russian poetry for small audiences across Israel. My fondest memories of my dad are seeing him do what he loved and continuously learning and developing intellectually until the day he died.
In his honor and to continue his meaningful legacy, I am launching "Kozakov Foundation," a nonprofit organization that will create new opportunities for the next generation to pursue art, design, or film education and raising money to help support it.
Despite my dad's modest upbringing, he was lucky enough to be able to attend MXAT, a top acting & directing university in Moscow, which led to his first acting role that defined the rest of his career. For most, the choice of pursuing a career path in the arts is simply not accessible, as it is often rooted in finances and the ability to take a chance and make an investment into a perceived risky career.
The vicious cycle has created a homogenous design & arts industry lacking diverse and meaningful talent that can tell stories and share perspectives representative of the realities of most people. Simply put, the question of our culture is at stake, and we need to advance new talent into the arts & design disciplines through access to education.
* Join me today by raising money that will 100% go directly to creating scholarships for those accepted into design & arts disciplines and or design & arts universities.
* Through its development, the Kozakov Foundation will also create a fellow network to support its scholars and their artistic endeavors.
* All scholars and scholarships will be thoroughly vetted with the help of Bold.org, a registered 501(c)3.
