Hi friends from Australia & Bula from Fiji!
For the past four months I have been living in Qelekuro Village in eastern Viti Levu, with the purpose of living in a traditional Fijian village and carrying out volunteer work primarily in their two growing and underfunded local kindergartens (Qelekuro and Lawaki Kindergartens). Sadly, this warm vibrant village and nearly all its houses were destroyed during the horrors of Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016. This same cyclone also took the mother’s life of my adopted village ‘sister’. My family, friends and communities in Aus have worked exceptionally hard to collect supply donations for these kindergartens, the village school children and community in general; with my vision of sustainably rehoming pre-loved items and helping those in need. In Australia we have an overwhelming surplus of material goods, much of which ends up at the dump while still in good working condition.
I have set up this GoFundMe page in order to help fund the shipping of a 20ft container of supplies plus additional transportation costs, as all outstanding costs will have to be covered by my family. I am undertaking this work completely independent of any NGO or government program, so I need your help to make it a reality and provide the families of Qelekuro with much-needed supplies! The village people of Fiji have so little, yet are so generous with what they have and I hope as Australians we can do the same.
My fundraising target is $12,000, so any and all financial assistance is greatly appreciated, no matter how big or small! A huge thank you must be extended to everyone who has already supported my mission here, including the Southside Eagles Football Club, University of Queensland Rugby Club, Anglican Church Grammar School and Ausecology Pty Ltd.
