Korey’s Fight Against Heart Worm

MAY 2, 2025
I adopted Korey in February of 2022. He came to me scared of all humans and slowly started gaining his trust with me. He was diagnosed with heart worm a few months later. After completing his “slow kill” treatment we went about our lives hiking, dog parks, and traveling has been a lot of Korey’s new life. Now 3 years later Korey, Haven and I went to the vet for an annual checkup. Both of the dogs got tested for heart worm and unfortunately Korey has tested positive for the second time. The veterinarian told me that it is very common for dogs who have completed the “slow kill” treatment to test positive again. If I would have known I would have never chosen that method of treatment.

Knowing Korey has heart worm again is one of the most gut wrenching feelings I’ve ever felt. He is the most amazing, loving, care free dog I have ever met/had. So with that we will be fighting this heart worm much much harder than we did last time. Unfortunately putting Korey through treatment will require a lot of rest and is an expensive process. I appreciate any and all thoughts and prayers. If you would like to help Korey, myself and the people who love him feel free to donate.

UPDATE: Korey had his first 8 hour day vet visit today. I dropped Korey off at 8:30am. Korey wouldn’t leave the house, get out of the car, or walk in the clinic without Haven. Once Korey was inside he refused to walk back with the vet techs (bless their heart) so I had to walk back until he was comfortable then sneak out the back door. If you know Korey you know he has high anxiety so Dr. Bayli gave him some Trazodone to help calm him. I then went to take Haven home and she refused to walk inside. So Haven got to come to work with mom today. Today’s appointment was paid for by the generosity in some of you. I have 2 months until the “cheap ($150)” appts are over and the $500 appts start. Please SHARE SHARE SHARE to get Korey’s GoFundMe out there. I really appreciate all of your help through this process. Korey is still my strong little man and will get through this! Next appt is June 6!

This week has been nothing but crazy so forgot to update! Korey finished his antibiotics on Wednesday! He did absolutely amazing taking them! 3.5 pills twice daily is not easy for a dog let alone Korey. Today my brave boy went back to the vet for another 8hour day. We still had to take his crazy sister but he walked back to the kennel ALL BY HIMSELF. (Proud mom moment) so today Haven gets to tag along with mom and go many places as we have many errands to run! Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as this is the last “easy/cheap ($150)” appointment. Korey’s next appointment will consist of an injection ($463/ ea x3) that is fairly painful as well as being on limited activity! With all that being said our big boy is down to 73.4lbs!! Only 15 more pounds to go!
