Korede Adekanye Medical Student Fleeing Ukraine

This is a fundraiser for our friend and One Health enthusiast Korede Adekanye (Korey), who was preparing to start his 4th-year as a medical student at National Pirogov Memorial Medical University in Vinnytsia, Ukraine when the fighting broke out. Originally from Nigeria, Korey is also a microbiologist. He fled the violence in Ukraine and is currently in Bucharest, Romania. There he stayed at the Nigerian embassy and is now in temporary dormitory housing with 6 other students he is helping. Because of the influx of new refugees, they can only stay in this housing for 1 week. After that they need to find semi-permanent housing in an apartment in the area. We are working on finding an english speaking medical school where Korey can obtain a visa and finish his final 2 years of school. He will need finances to travel and for initial expenses when this is established, but for now he needs immediate assistance. He left Ukraine with only his laptop and the love and respect of a large group of professionals whose lives he has touched. He has been able to find safety for himself, and then immediately turned to also helping others in similar situations. Helping Korey will undoubtably also help all those in similar situations who he comes in contact with.
Korey was an intern at One Health Lessons, and in his letter of intent he had this to say:
"I had my first encounter with the One Health concept in 2016 during my undergraduate studies in Microbiology. I did a seminar presentation on the reemergence of Zika Virus and learned about the huge role climate change, amongst other factors, played in the breeding of the Aedes spp. which transmits the virus, leading to the epidemic. This spurred my interest and made me start to think about how clinicians and other medical professionals can work together with professionals from other relevant backgrounds to be more mindful of their environment and other species, even as they try to prevent and treat diseases."
Korey will undoubtably do great things in his career, but right now he needs our help. Please consider donating. All funds will go directly from the US to his newly establish account in Romania.
