Korean American Day @ Inglemoor High School

Hi, my name is Sophie, and I'm raising money to recognize Korean American Day at my school, Inglemoor High School, on January 12, 2024.

Funding will be put toward developing materials to educate my community about Korean American Day. During lunch, I plan to distribute Korean snacks and drinks to Inglemoor High School students while sharing information about Korean American history, culture, and significance.

Like many other Asian Americans, I have been experiencing misconceptions and a lack of knowledge about my ethnicity since I was young. As a student of a school that places great importance on celebrating diversity, I believe it is very meaningful to represent my own identity as a Korean American at the place where I spend so much of my time. I ran a similar project in January 2023, and its overwhelming success and popularity were unexpected. Students came to try snacks and stayed to ask questions and understand the significance of the celebration. Last year's project was the most genuine recognition of and interest in Korean-American culture I have experienced, and I aim to continue to create a space where Korean-American heritage is known and well represented.
