Kordh (Clan), a short film on the Isles of Scilly

Donation protected
Sixteen and trans, Cam feels alone in the world until Teän comes back to the island for their nephew’s christening party.

Hi, I’m Jaime Lock, a writer from St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly. I am delighted to be a recipient of the FylmK Award for my debut short film in the Cornish language, Kordh (Clan).

Having spent lots of my life living in Cornwall, I feel incredibly proud and excited to be following in the footsteps of previous FylmK recipients by bringing the Cornish language (which I'm learning) to contemporary stories.

Kordh (Clan) is about friendship between two LGBTQ+ young people on the Isles of Scilly and is a story very close to me. I want to give voice to characters we don’t often see in remote/isolated places and I want to create the kind of positive representation I wish I’d have seen as a queer young person. Seeing ourselves reflected on screen is important because it shows us that we exist, we’re not alone and our ‘clan’ is out there.

By donating, you will be supporting the first Cornish language film looking at the queer/trans islander experience.

I’m excited to be working with the local community on the islands to make Kordh (Clan) happen. Some of the cast and crew will be locals and many more will be extras in the pub scene.

My dream is to shoot the film on St Mary’s: part in The Old Town Inn, the pub my late Grandad Guy built years ago, and part along Peninnis Head and Old Town Beach. The film is so firmly located on the islands and it would be such a shame to have to resort to shoot elsewhere.

How can you help?

As some of you may know, travel over to the islands is extremely expensive and we are working with a low budget. As it stands, we don’t have enough money to fund getting cast and crew over on the Scillonian to make the film happen.

The money raised through this GoFundMe will cover our transport costs (cast, crew, and kit), enabling us to shoot on Scilly. Anything extra raised will go towards paying some members of the crew who are very kindly working (very hard!) for free or very little.

If you donate £20 or more, you will receive an invitation to attend a cast and crew screening of Kordh (Clan) either in Cornwall (if you're a mainlander!) or in Scilly, likely towards the end of 2024.

Hear me speak a bit more about why this film needs to be shot on Scilly:

It would feel so incredible to be able to include Scilly in the canon of Cornish language films and present the islands from my perspective as someone who grew up there. So often, the islands are painted purely as a holiday destination. Making this film would give me the chance to tell a bit of a different story.

Thank you so much for listening, and for your support. We can't do this without you.
