Koraci Naprijed - Short Film

After the loss of his soccer-obsessed father, a teenage boy questions his career ambitions as a professional soccer player.

WHY THIS FILM?

Koraci Naprijed or Footsteps Forward is a short film revolving around soccer/football. The script was born from a place of passion for, not only the sport, but for the power of sport in regards to family. It centres around the connection between a father and a son through the love of sport and at soccer specifically as a tool for bonding, tradition and generational passion.

The film begins after the passing of Andrej’s father, who was a talented soccer prospect but could not continue his career ambitions, so he passed them down to his son and lived the sport once again through him. But once Andrej’s connection to the sport is gone, he finds himself feeling lost and abandoned. Is being a soccer player really what he wants? Or is it just what his dad wanted for him?

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

I am a writer/director born in Hamilton, Ontario, who is two years out of film school, working on Short Films and Commercials as an Assistant Director. I am passionate about what I do and have an urge to make films like this one. This project is a personal one for me, told through the eyes of a Canadian kid with Croatian heritage, like myself. I put a large part of myself into this film and it is fuelled by absolute and pure passion and love for not only filmmaking, but soccer, family and Croatian heritage.

THIS IS WHERE YOUR MONEY IS GOING

We’re raising a total of $20,000 to pay our crew and cover location, permit and insurance costs. These are essential parts of our production to ensure we are keeping our cast and crew safe, fed well, and being mindful of the needs of the location. Our crew is very important to us, and although we are a low-budget production, we’d like to pay people as much as we can for their time and willingness to be part of the project.

WHY DONATE?

This film is not something we will profit off of but something we intend to show the world. The money raised will only go towards creating this film and to the amazing team of talented filmmakers working on it. Not only is this short film about family and sport, it aims to highlight the Croatian community in Ontario. Ontario is a stronghold of the many Croatian diaspora and a community that values holding on to tradition. Our ambitions for this project are high and what we hope to achieve is not going to be easy because if it was easy then it would never be worth doing!
