We are reaching out to ask for any generosity that can be lent our way for our sweet 8-year-old Brittany Spaniel Kora.
Kora is such an important part of our family. She is so loving, patient, obsessed with squirrels, and our twin girls absolutely adore her. For years, one of our biggest dreams was to finally give Kora a home with a real backyard where she could run, play, and enjoy chasing every squirrel. We worked incredibly hard and stretched our finances to the absolute limit to make that dream happen.
We finally got the house. We finally got her the yard. And almost immediately, we were hit with this news.
Recently, Kora started struggling with straining and digestive issues. In June 2026, we took her to the vet after she got into some chicken bones. The abdominal X-rays showed bone fragments, but they also revealed a soft-tissue mass in her descending colon causing narrowing of her intestinal passage.
Despite this, Kora is still Kora. She’s energetic and eating well. Her chest X-rays showed no evidence of cancer spreading to her lungs, giving us real hope that this could be treatable if we can act quickly.
Her veterinary team has recommended advanced CT imaging, an ultrasound with fine-needle aspiration (FNA), and specialist care to determine what this mass is and figure out the best surgical path forward.
While it is incredibly hard for us to ask, at this time, we have very little financial flexibility and simply cannot cover the costs of Kora’s urgent medical care on our own.
We put everything we had into buying our home, leaving us without the financial safety net we normally would have.
We had also had high coverage pet insurance in place since early this year—long before we knew anything about the mass. We thought we had prepared for unexpected emergencies by having coverage in place.
Unfortunately, our insurance company denied Kora’s claim claiming this is a pre-existing condition, even though we had a physical from early this year clearing her of any findable mass.
We are actively appealing the denial with updated documentation from Kora’s veterinarian, but the process takes time—and the insurance process has proven exceedingly difficult.
Kora needs a solution now, as her digestive issues have been harder on her.
We simply cannot afford to wait for the insurance appeal before getting her the care she needs.
How Your Generosity Will Help
Every dollar raised will go directly toward Kora’s immediate medical care:
* Specialist consultation
* CT scan / ultrasound imaging
* Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) & lab work
* Treatment and/or surgery, if needed
If you are able to contribute in any way, we would be incredibly grateful for your generosity and support. And we promise that, as we are able, we will pay that kindness forward to others who find themselves in a situation like ours. ❤️
We finally got Kora the backyard she had been waiting for.
Now we just want to make sure she gets to enjoy it. ❤️
Thank you so much for any help you can lend in taking care of our girl.
