Kondo Festival

Donation protected
September 18-23 Tandem Duo is presenting a festival of the music of Japanese composer Kohei Kondo in the Phoenix, Arizona area. They are bringing Mr. Kondo to Phoenix from Japan and collaborating with Arizona State University, Clark Park Community Garden, Tempe Center for the Arts, and Phoenix Center for the Arts to put on a week of concerts, master classes, and composer talks of his music. Mr. Kondo is composing new works that will be premiered at the festival.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students and the community to be exposed to modern Japanese culture and music, and a unique chance for young composers to personally interact with an established composer from another culture. This festival is a rare occasion for audiences to experience a composer working directly with performers in real time to present a world premiere of a new work.

Tandem Duo has worked with Mr. Kondo for several years and he has kindly written several compositions for us in the past. This festival is not only an opportunity to bring fresh rejuvenated culture to the Phoenix area, but a way to thank Mr. Kondo for his years of selfless inspired art.

Because Tandem Duo is striving to create a world-class collaborative experience, a large part of the services needed to present the festival will be provided pro bono by Tandem Collective members (the extended network of Tandem Duo colleagues) and our university colleagues. The majority of the funding is needed to provide appropriate travel and residence accommodations for Mr. Kondo and his wife.

We need your help! We are committed to providing the highest quality experience for performers and audiece alike. All proceeds go to the production of the festival.

The festival budget is as follows:
1.     Japanese interpreter - $50 per day: $250 total
