Konawaena Cub Reporters On the Move!
Donation protected
Aloha, we are the Konawaena High School journalism writing class for the '23-'24 school year. Our class of 18 student reporters and editors has big dreams and plans for educational events, and we hope you can help! Currently, we are seeking financial support to cover the cost of our Nov. 19-21 field trip to Oahu for the Society of Professional Journalists regional conference, where we will learn 21st-century career skills such as computer-based research, and meet interesting people including media mentors, fellow youth reporters, and maybe even the mayor of Honolulu (who is a speaker at the event.)
Your educational donation will help pay for our airfare, lodging, and transportation for this conference, as well as other educational opportunities throughout the year. This is the second year that Konawaena High School has offered a news writing class after a few years of a COVID hiatus, so we are still in the building phase. Thus, we also need to purchase equipment such as digital recorders and camera tripods, and pay for contest entry fees to gain recognition for our work.
The journalism writing class produces the school newspaper,The Wildcat, which you can read online on our website. We’re dedicated to informing our school community about new information on the islands and how our students may be affected. It’s our duty to give the truth and keep people up-to-date. In our class, we learn how to become stronger writers, researchers, communicators, and leaders. These skills and experiences will help us later with college, scholarships, and careers, including professions in communications, graphic design, and the law, to name a few.
All good stuff, right? So, we kindly request your help by making a monetary donation to this campaign in support of the Konawaena High School Journalism/Student Newspaper Club/Class. Any amount you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. Just $30 would cover one student's hotel costs for the night during the November conference at UH Manoa. Please donate now and spread the word. Thank you!
