Kona's Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Twelve months ago my wife and I decided to take on a rescue animal. Kona was found wandering around a parking lot by herself in Beaumont, CA when she was about three months old. Some friends of ours rescued her in an attempt to find her owner. We all tried to find her owner, but no one came forward. My wife and I decided to make her a part of our family. Since then, Kona has truly become that and more. She's become my workout partner, my companion and a real source of joy for both me and my wife. On the night of January 31st, I had to rush Kona to the emergency room due to unexplained coughing and difficulty breathing. That night Kona was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. The ER was able to stabilize her for the most part and the next day she was off to her regular vet. That day we were able to fully stabilize her and start her on a regiment of medications to keep her stable. Since then we have been to several facilities who have taken X-rays, Blood Work and conducted multiple echocardiograms. Today, February 20, we got a definitive diagnosis from a Board Certified Cardiologist in Tustin that Kona is suffering from a Congenital Heart Defect that she was born with.  Kona has Patent Ductus Arteriosis or PDA. It's a condition where a fetal valve fails to close after birth. This has caused Kona's Left Aorta and Ventricle to stretch to a point where she has been experiencing Ventricula Premature Complexes or VPC's. Her heart is enlarged and will continue to do so if no surgical action is taken. The Board Certified Cardiologist has given Kona a life expectancy of 3 to 6 months with no surgery and 3 years to a full life with the surgery. All of Kona's presurgical costs have run in the thousands and have already drained our savings. Her surgery and post surgical expenses are more than what my wife and I have and we find ourselves looking to others who are more well off for help. We have always been on the other side of the coin in terms of donations and it feels strange to be in a position of need. All we want is for our baby Kona Bear to feel better and to have an opportunity to live a full life. She is so smart and offers nothing but unconditional love. She deserves to live to see her second birthday. If you find it in your heart to help us out with anything, we would be eternally grateful. We need to make her surgery happen as soon as possible, we are shooting for March 1st. Once again thanks for taking the time to read about our situation and we sincerely thank you for anything you might contribute.
